We’ve got CONCRETE! We’ve been crossing all our fingers and toes over here at Volcano Cat Sanctuary, to get a break in the rain that is long enough to get our concrete pouring done. The first enclosure at our permanent sanctuary site here on the Big Island of Hawaii can’t be done soon enough! Thankfully we got a break on Monday that was long enough to get it done, and now look! It’s drying and curing, and we’ve got the main flooring DONE for the section of our sanctuary shelter that will be concrete. We’re also going to be really depending on some good weather to get the roofing done, so fingers and toes are crossed once again, so that we can get the panels up and be one step closer to our permanent sanctuary site being functional and ready for kitties! It’s a funny thing, watching people do build projects who live in places where there is a real “dry season”, without rainy days, because that does not exist here, especially within certain micro climates on the island. And it’s been an especially rainy year in some areas here, even beyond the Kona Low storms we had. There’s just a few more steps right now that are super dependent on the weather, and once those are done we can make a LOT more progress. Can you please put some good wishes for good weather out into the universe?
We are currently fostering kittens ages 4 weeks to 12 weeks, as well as some adult cats on a case to case basis. We are actively building a cat sanctuary in Volcano, HI. We have cleared one acre of land and installed cat proof fencing, and continue to work towards building structures, and obtaining water, sewer and electricity. Our efforts are focused on building a beautiful cat sanctuary where stray and homeless cats can live their lives in peace and safety.
We also are continuing to work to decrease the feral and free roaming cat population on Hawaii Island to help protect native bird species and Hawaii's delicate ecosystem.

Community Voices
“I visited Volcano Cat Sanctuary in October, and was impressed with the dedication and care the animals were receiving. The kittens are socialized, neutered or spayed, and receive medical treatment before they are allowed to be adopted. All of the people I met while visiting were compassionate about the sweet kittens in their care, and seemed to really love what they were doing.”

“This organization is doing so much to help in our community! They have helped me get two litters of foster kittens adopted! They have helped me out so much with medications, spaying and neutering, and are super supportive to their kitty foster parents!”

“VCS does everything they can to help community cats in the midst of the overpopulation crisis here. When a caring kupuna approached me after finding a mama and her fresh batch of kittens on the property he rents where cats aren’t allowed, I ended up turning to VCS. I quickly became a foster for them while they provided the kittens the care they needed (treatment for parasites, spay/neuter, adoption outreach, etc) at as little inconvenience to me as possible. I’ve now adopted some of those kitties and fostered many more through Volcano Cat Sanctuary. It’s been great to connect with such kind-hearted people who go above and beyond for the environment and community.”
